Unless you know your history, it's easy to forget that Catholics were once a persecuted, religious minority in this country. Many of the arguments circulating today against Islam and Muslims in America are the same arguments that were hurled at Catholics nearly a century ago. Can we learn from our past?
When America feared and reviled Catholics
We will learn from the past but we will also repeat it over and over. We can't help it because we have strong beliefs and we don't all agreee on the beliefs. There are many religions around the world and they will always compete with each other. They will always think they are the best, or the right religion. There have been religious wars since the beginning, Christians, Catholics, Muslims, Jews, I don't think this will ecer stop. It is interesting because most of them say to love each other and they don't show much understanding to each other. I think we do learn from the past but sometimes it only teaches how to better hurt another person or group.
